I wanted to create something special for my sister-in-law's baby shower. I decided to use cupcakes. They were easy to distribute and gave each guest a special "treasure" on top.
I created the baby toppers out of fondant about four days in advance and allowed them to dry. The day before the shower I attached them to the cupcakes with frosting. The guests didn't want to eat the babies, but instead, carried them home with them like favors!
I wanted to display the cupcakes in a special fashion as well. I created characters out of clay and painted them. There was a nurse holding a baby, a child on the shoulders of Daddy, a man with a camara, a man pointing and a man waving. I used a cake box with colored stickers to create a vintage hospital nursary. I tried to make the characters look like they were from the era when men had too view their babies from afar.
This was my first attempt using fondant and it was a lot of fun to create. The cupcakes were the talk of the shower and seemed to make everyone smile!
